Akuse Hospital

Located in the Lower Manya district in the Eastern region of Ghana, Akuse Hospital is one of the oldest Government Hospitals in Ghana built by the Germans in 1911. This facility provides health care services to patients mainly from the Eastern region, Greater Accra Region, and the Volta region based on its unique location.

Initially constructed to provide services as a clinic, the facility currently operates as an entire hospital, which poses a significant challenge to delivering effective and quality care due to the lack of essential medical equipment. The hospital now has a children’s ward, female, male, and maternity wards.  The hospital has one operating room where they perform surgical cases, except for complicated cases.

The hospital faces challenges in replacing expensive and broken-down equipment, and these challenges place its patients at a disadvantage in accessing quality care. It also contributes to the hospital losing experienced staff, in result causing high staff attrition rate.
